Michi defends titel in Neufeld

Michael Weiss was the winner of the Neufeld Olympic Distance Triathlon on Sunday June 21st. The race took place just two weeks before Ironman Austria and featured a 1.5km swim, 40km bike course, and 10k run.

Weiss, of Gumpoldskirchen, exited the water in eighth place and was able to take the lead during the first lap of the bike course. Despite strong and gusty winds, he entered T2 with a 54:23 bike split and substantial gap between the remainder of the field. Once on the run, Michi maintained a solid lead and finished the race in 1:55:00, nearly 5 minutes ahead of 2nd place racer, Andrei Orlicky.

Upon completion, Michael commented, "I wanted to hit a really tough pace today and test my body's recovery before Ironman Austria. It was a success and I feel great going into Klagenfurt, my first long distance race on home soil. I hope to connect my recent performances and have a strong Ironman on July 4th.”
